Plotting out the new plot

A photo of a new plot of land

PLANT and Tayport Community Trust are delighted to now own the triangular piece of land bordered by the Community Garden, Pond Lane and the burn. We are most grateful to the British Legion Fund for their generous grant allowing us to purchase the ground, and to the previous owner for their favourable terms.

Generations of children have enjoyed playing here and dog walkers regularly come too. We are fully committed to ensuring that the ground continues to be used in this way, open to all the community. After meeting with our neighbours from New St, we have come up with the following plans to enhance the ground for community use, while leaving the open grassy area accessible for play and walking:

  • Replace the existing fence along Pond Lane with a hedge, including shrubs with fruits, flowers and scent. The hedge would be maintained to not exceed 4-5 feet, but might include small single trees at intervals. An archway entrance opposite New St is planned.
  • Plant wildflower and bulbs planted along the verge.
  • Add seating and a table in one corner of the plot, and a second bench at the top end (funding permitting)
  • A second bin for dog waste has already been installed, and a sign reminding owners to pick up dog waste will be put up.

We very much welcome comments and other ideas from you – call into the garden and have a chat.
