Our gardening guru for the 8th session of online gardening was Peter Christopher from PLANT’s Tayport Community Garden. Peter talked about taking care of young vegetable plants we have growing at the Garden at the moment, including outdoor crops such as pumpkins, potatoes, leeks, beans and peas, and the indoor ones such as corn, tomatoes, and peppers. The garden tour was followed by an informative Q&A with participants about their own growing dilemmas.
Peter recommends Royal Horticultural Society website for detailed growing advice.
In our next workshop on Tuesday 23rd of June Bob Bilson from Strathkinness Community Garden, Andrea Roach from Yellow Wellies Gardening and Helena Simmons from Ninewells Community Garden will demonstrate how to work out and improve your garden’s soil type. Bring a handful of your soil and some water for a hands-on test! Please RSVP through Eventbrite here to reserve a spot. Recordings and notes from previous workshops can be found on PLANT website.
This workshop series is an informal collaboration between a number of local community food growers in response to increased demand for growing advice under covid-15 lockdown, including Edible Campus (Transition University St Andrews), Strathkinness Community Garden, Ninewells Community Garden, PLANT’s Tayport Community Garden. We would welcome any other contributors, please get in touch with Kaska on blog@tayportgarden.org.
