Tayport Talks

Gillian Fyfe Tayport Talks coordinatorTayport Talks project aims at helping people in Tayport make connections and providing training and work experience for young people. Working together to hold conversations about life in Tayport in the past which will result in a digital archive and book.

Intergenerational conversations will provide opportunities for work experience and training for younger people. Older Tayport residents will have the chance to be interviewed and be involved in weekly group discussions. The project aims to help participants build friendship groups after the difficulties of lockdown and will encourage and support people to share their memories and stories of the past.

The project started in March 2022 and is coordinated by Gillian Fyfe on a part-time basis. Gillian said:

Having seen that many people have struggled to maintain a social life during lockdown and are finding it hard to ‘get back out’ I am looking forward to making it easier for people in Tayport to reconnect. I have been supporting a relative adjust to life with dementia and realised how easy it is to become isolated especially since the start of the covid-19 pandemic. I am looking forward to meeting lots of new faces in Tayport and learning about life in Tayport in the past.

Group discussions and informal chats over tea and cakes will take place on a regular basis. Individual oral histories will be recorded and will form a digital archive and book about life in Tayport. We are looking for 20 adults to join this project who would like to share their stories about Tayport. Transport can be arranged for those with reduced mobility.

To help run the project we are also recruiting five young people (age 16-30 years) who are not in education or full-time employment. We will arrange certificated training in interviewing and recording and all equipment will be provided.

If you would like to take part or know of someone who would be interested, please get in touch with: Tayport Talks Project Co-ordinator, Gillian Fyfe, on 07724194057 or email: tayporttalks@tayportgarden.org.

The project is funded by Scottish Government’s Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing grant, managed by Fife Voluntary Action, Fife’s Social Care Partnership and Fife Council.
