July at Tayport Community Garden

July has been very dry and it’s been hard to water things. Especially the boat. We have to keep carrying the water up and down to water the boat. Thankfully it started raining this week!

There were more nice flower pots planted out by Alzheimer and Caley groups.

We weeded the path and Peter used his flame gun to torch the rest when everyone was away. Kaska was there with a bucket of water to make sure nothing that was not supposed to burned. The garden looked very good for the Beautiful Fife Award judges who visited Tayport earlier this month.

Under my supervision Craig, Ian and Will also dug a tough for a cable to connect battery in the toilet to our solar panel. Ian says it was hard work!

I got a chance to go to Garvie Brae to join in the very berry picnic at the Fruit Tree Walk the other week. It was very good but not many people turned up. Those who did had fun and picked lots of berries. Julie made some jelly to sell at the Scotland’s Open Gardens last Sunday.

We had a smoothie bike at Berry Picnic and then at the garden on Monday. Both kids and adults had lots of fun making berry smoothies. Even my mum came over to have go. We think we should have it for more events.

Open Gardens last Sunday got really busy. We had 8 gardens open in Tayport, including the Community Garden. It got really busy. We had to keep going back and forth for hot water to make tea and coffee because we don’t have power on site. We had 170 visitors and made £900 to donate to charity. Thank you for all of the amazing help from volunteers on the day and the cake bakers who made a mountain of goodies.

The Garden is looking good. We have lots of vegetables we harvested a whole bucket of peas and radishes today. Our stall is back at the harbour on Sundays 1 to 3pm, and at the Tayport Gala on 11th of August (no harbour stall that weekend). You are also welcome to pop by the Garden during the week on Mondays and Wednesdays to pick some up.
