Bumblebee explorers – we should all bee better to bees!

By Robbie and Holly

Today we learned about the bees and their lifecycle.

Then we went out to see how many flowers we had for the bees along the path outside the garden.

We found lots of different colours of flowers, and shapes and species. Many of them were bumblebee favourites.

We also found honey bees, carder bees and stripy bees.

We think the weeds around the path are quite bee friendly!

Our favourite bumblebee facts:

There are more than 20,000 species of bees around the world. There are 25 bumblebee species in the UK.

Bees like blue and purple flowers the most because they see them the best.

We should all bee better to bees beecause bees are breerilliant!

This bumblebee explorers session was the first of our Earth Explorers summer series for children aged 8-12. Earth Explorers run on Wednesday afternoons, 2-4:30pm, from 5 July to 9th of August. Please book by contacting Jenny on volunteer@tayportgarden.org or 07956067070.

We used Bee Scene materials by Plantlife. You can beecome a bumblebee explorer yourself in your own garden, park or other green space by downloading their family friendly pack here (PDF). Let us know what you find!
