The Family Fun Day on Saturday 31st July was a great event at a Tayport Community Garden. Luckily the weather was lovely which definitely helped and we calculated that around 150 adults and children came along.
We set up an ‘online wall’ for everybody to share their memories of the day – thanks to all who posted on it so far. Singing and story telling, boules, skittles and the ever popular face-painting meant the little ones had a great time. Peter ran a cutting workshop in the polytunnel, Kaska showed off our community blog and the tea and cake stall went like a fair.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped us set up the marquees with limited instructions, who kept calm when the hot water ran out and who generally ensured that this family event was such a brilliant success.
A special thank you to everyone who made cakes and helped harvest and arrange the garden produce for sale. We sold everything on offer and the funds raised will go towards other workshops and help to ensure that the garden continues to develop.
September will be a busy time in the Garden. We are launching a series of mini workshops during our Open Gardening Sessions on Sundays, from 2pm to 3pm. These will include harvesting produce, preparing Christmas baskets with hyacinths, narcissus paperwhite & tête-à-tête as well as a lesson in taking hardwood cuttings. We are also hoping to run one of our monthly gardening workshops on pest control. Please check our Facebook and Events page for the dates of specific workshops.
Our annual Fruit Fest will be taking place in Tayport on the 15th October and we are also planning to run a fancy dress get together for children around Halloween. In November we will invite people to learn some willow making skills.
